Lumix 7-14 and Zeiss 85MM Playing Nice Together

I had to turn a sweeps promo around pretty fast. No b-roll for the promo was shot yet, and my deadline to get it on the air was tight, so I took the reporter outside the building at the station and we tried a few lines,  I didn’t like the light it was to harsh,  Bob had the idea to move across the street and shoot in a walkway between two buildings in downtown San Diego. Great spot! Sometimes you do have to listen to talent. I already knew how I wanted to shoot the spot, three separate lines on camera with no transitions to be added in the edit,  all done in camera. I just got the Lumix 7-14mm a few days before and was dyeing to use it, I love this lens, it’s really fun to use in the right situations. I handheld the opening shot over my head looking up at the LCD screen on the AF-100. I like the shot when Bob puts the phone up in the lens. It was only a couple inchs away from the front of the lens. The second shot was with the Zeiss 85mm ZF, it has that beautiful bokeh that made the shots edit well together. The Zeiss has great contrast, I had to match the two with a little color correction but nothing big. The last shot was the Lumix 7-14 again, from low this time,  swooping from behind. The two lenses really worked well together on this quick turn promo, I love both of these lenses. The 7-14 is crazy wide but the middle of the lens almost looks normal, so if you put a persons face in the middle of the frame they don’t have that fun house look. I’m always looking for a reason to us this lens again. The Zeiss is fantastic and I see it becoming a workhorse for interviews and shallow depth shots. Its sharp even wide open, and again has nice contrast, did I mention that bokeh? like butter.
