Added a SmallHD DP6 To My Kit. WOW!
I’m a fan of SmallHD. They make very good monitors at a reasonable price and customer service is top notch. My first product I purchased from them was a DP4 EVF to use with my Panasonic AF-100 and the DP4 is just great. I’ve been wanting to get the DP6 for some time now and then the sale came. 30% off for a B-Stock DP6. This is the DSLR version so no SDI only HDMI. However I can get the SDI upgrade in April if I want and I probably will, so should I take a chance? Heck yes and boy did I score. I cant find any issues with the screen on my copy only a few missed anodizing spots in the holes where the shade is mounted. YES!!!! Besides being thrilled by saving $300 bucks I’m impressed with how sharp it is. I had a two day shoot at night with a Sony F3 and used only the DP6. Wow. I was pulling focus with moving subjects walking straight to the camera and I knew every time when I didn’t nail the focus. This is a great monitor. A big plus is how light it is. I mounted it on a Noga arm on the left side of the F3 so I can shoot handheld as well. False color works very well and the new focus assist is much better now. To be honest I didn’t need to use the focus assist but its nice to get confirmation you are in focus.
If your thinking about a small field monitor definitely check out the DP6.
Happy Shooting!
