Tilta Baseplate With Built In Shoulder Pad BS-T03
I’ve been trying to build a shoulder mount rig ever since I purchased an AF-100. Take a look at this article to see how I got to where I’m now. This rig will work with so many diffrent cameras like the GH2 and 5DMKIII. Basically any camera that wasn’t meant to be put on your shoulder can be configured with this system. I also purchased the Hand Grips with 15mm/19mm rail handle bar UH-T03 and a monitor mount with 15mm rail support MA-T03. Both are as impressive as the base plate.
I decided the best way to show the Tilta is by making a quick video and showing the kit to you. I hope this helps you see how versatile the Tilta really is. I haven’t found a better and more economical way to get the camera in a hand held configuration yet until now.
I have used several different baseplates and most of them are designed to only add rails to your camera. If you want to add a shoulder set up then you’ll need to spend even more money on several more components. The Tilta is designed around the shoulder pad. That’s what makes this the perfect baseplate or core of your rig.
Now a little bad news. It’s hard to get this shoulder rig in the USA. I can’t find any distributers. I bought it direct from Tilta and that also seems like it’s getting harder. I’m reaching out to Tilta to see if they have a better way of selling the rigs. I will update this post when I get a reply from them.
UPDATE 7/18/2012
If your interested in purchasing Tilta products Tilta has a new retail website now. Sort of. Here is how it works. You need a referral to register for access to the retail site. Then you can buy Tilta products including the base plate. It seems Tilta is trying to roll out slow because they cant handle the demand so this is what they decided to do. If you want to buy Tilta products I have 10 referrals I can give out. The best way for me to do this is for you to post a comment below with your email address and I will submit it to Tilta and they will send you a link to register. It’s kind of complicated but that’s how it is. I wont post your email address if you add DONT POST in the comment. Tilta processed the registration fast. For me it took less than five minutes.
Happy shooting!

Hey Erik,
Thank you very much for that video! I have been looking for a solid shoulder rig that is still economical for a while and I came across your great video! How much did it cost you to buy this directly from Tilta? Also, how much did they charge you for shipping?
Thank you very much in advance!
-Bob
Hi Bob.
You’er very welcome! I paid $236 plus $95 for shipping charges from China. The Grips cost $265.00 and the monitor arm with rail mount was $60. Grand total $654. What a deal! I have no idea if Tilta is still selling direct or for how much. This was back in February. I haven’t been able to get them to answer the last few emails lately. I wanted to see if they had a better way of selling in the USA other than emailing the company direct. If you find a local USA distributer let me know and I will update this post.
Cheers!
They are now selling in the US, website is http://www.teamtilta.com
Currently, you need a referral to get into the site & place an order. I can send out some referrals to anyone who needs it, but Erik if you set up an account you could send out invites to any of the readers like me who’ve stumbled on your site.
Thanks for the link and the info. I will add it to the post.
Hi Erik,
Great blog, really informative. I am an AF100 owner as well and am interested in the Tilta gear. If you could help me on that I would appreciate it.
Cheers,
Roger
Referral sent.
Let me me know how it works out.
Thanks, Erik, will do. Congrats on the recent Emmy awards! I was actually also considering investing in an HPX250 for the exact situations you mentioned why you use your HPX370. A friend of mine had the 300 and just sold it, we worked together on a job that I hired him to be second camera on a while back and the image quality of the AVC-Intra 100 was quite nice.
Cheers,
Roger
Hi Erik,
As a fellow Eric, and as a fellow AF100 owner also going through mix and match with shoulder rigs, please use one of your referrals for me to order a Tilta baseplate.

Thank you for the video showing the Tilta system you put together.
Best.

I still have my AF100. I just shot some stuff for USC with it:
I’ve got a possible feature documentary coming up, so I really need to solve this hand held issue.
Hey Eric! Please send me a referral. I want to get my baseplate soon!

chris

Your welcome! Referral has been sent.
Thank you Eric for the great review. I have the AF100 and also a Panasonic GH2. I hope this rig will work with that camera as it has a pull out LCD. If you have an extra referral I would appreciate it. Thanks again. Joe D
Hi Joe!
Great combo. Referral sent.
Hi Erik,
I’ve been wracking my brains too for the last few years cobbling together all kinds of franken rigs to solve the ‘base plate needs to be where the shoulder pad is’ problem. I looked at the tilta set up and something similar from shape. I was very interested to hear your positive comments about tilta. In the UK there’s a company called cinegearpro that sells tilta but it seems a bit more £££ than dealing with tilta directly. I was hoping to order from team tilta – they require a password, is this where you’re referral would help?
Cheers
Hi Patrick.
Referral sent. Let me know if this is a good option for UK customers.
Cheers!
Hi Erik,
Great video – I’ve just bought a Sony F3 and I’m looking around for shoulder rigs options.
The Tilta gear looks like the answer for me. Can you send me a referral?
Thanks alot.
Hi Simon.
Love the F3. Congrats!
Very cool video, both informative and entertaining. I’ve been trying to decide between the Tilta 3 and the Genus video shoulder mount… the Genus looks like it’s also ready to rock n roll out the box but I think Tilta presents more options in the long run… and for far less dough. Any chance I could get a referral? Many thx.
Hi Stefan.
The Tilta is a great value.
I would love a referral. Thank you so much!
Hi James. Just sent you one.
I just ordered a full rig from them; everything they make except their matte box. I’m pumped!
Hey Erik,
Thanks for the very informative video. I’m trying to get my hands on one of those baseplates. If you have any referrals left, I would love to have one. THANKS!!!
Referral sent.
Hi,
Ive been trying to get my hands on their follow focus because it seems to be a very good product but i can not seem to find it anywhere for sale. Their website is just a log in. I dont know how to log into it.
If you could help me get hold of their follow focus for $320 i’d be very greatful.
Thanks
The sale ended yesterday but go ahead and try the promo code. Maybe it will still work.
Hey Erik,
Great review and congrats on the Emmys.I’ve been trying to get their baseplate and would appreciate the referral if you have any left.
Thanks!
Thanks Noah!
I sent the referral. Enjoy the base plate Its very nice!
Thanks Eric for a very helpful article. I just bought a Sony F3 a month ago and this may prove the right combination for it for hand held. Could you please send me a referral for the Tilta website.
Best
Patrick
F3 . Nice.
I’ve been looking for exactly this kind of solution for our Red Scarlet. I would like to purchase what you reviewed but you also mentioned there might be a kit for heavier cameras like the Scarlet, any suggestions for that? Regardless I would like the referal to get this package. Great review and very helpful, thanks so much for taking the time to make this.
Bob
Hi Bob. Glad you got something out of the review!
In the review I have another video NAB 2011 with Tilta and they showed a prototype of a larger heavier model but Tilta never released that baseplate.
Sorry one additional question. What is the name of that universal power adapter that you used for weight? That looked interesting and a good power solution too.
Thanks Eric!
Bob
Here is the article I wrote bout the Lanparte Power Dock.
https://eriknaso.com/projects/run-your-af-100-more-with-a-power-dock/
Hey Erik,
I know I’m late to the party but please tell me its not too late for you to send a referral for me?! Although I LOVE the Tilta baseplate, I’m still a little stuck between Tilta and Lanparte, either way, I’m looking to purchase in the next couple weeks, can you help? Thanks in advance.
Best,
Hundo

Hi Erik,
Great review – I’m looking to purchase the shoulder mount and hand grips, could you send through a referral if you still have one?
Thanks,
Joe
Thanks Joe. I sent the referral.
Hey Erik,
Just came across this solid review while looking for a shoulder mount solution that incorporates the VCT-U14 system. This looks like a perfect match and is the only thing Ive seen that can make those quick transitions from sticks to shoulder.
Can you please shoot over a referral?
thanks!
-Yasir
Thanks!
I sent a referral for you.
thanks Erik!
i want to pull the trigger on this BS-T03 but the only thing i see is the “Portable QR Baseplate (only)”.
It looks just like what you reviewed but i dont see a bottom view confirming VCT-U14 compatibility
is the “Portable QR Baseplate (only)” what you ordered?
thanks again,
-Yasir
Hey Erik,
Just saw your review as I’m currently looking for a great baseplate with shoulderpad / quick-release system for my AF100. Would it be possible to get a referral at this point for the Tilta website?
Thanks a lot for your time and dedication. Good, helpful reviews like this one really helps make up one’s mind about products!
Regards,
Gabe
Hey Eric, I would really appreciate a referral.
I sent you one.
Eric thank you so much! You saved me quite a bit of money because I thought cinegearpro is tilta official site and they sell original gear but they are just uk retailers. Thanks again and have a nice weekend!
I would like to buy the shoulder pad could you send me the link so that i can get one. Thanks.
Very Very glad I found this. A referral would be much appreciated. Thank you for your informative reviews!
Hi Jeff. I tried to send but Tilta won’t asset the emai address. Says already sent referral. Have another email?
Hi Eric,
Would love a referral for the Tilta site, that baseplate looks like the go…… Great video….!!
Cheers
Thanks for a great review on what look to be a great piece of kit. You must be inundated with requests for referrals but if you have the chance I would greatly appreciate one. Many thanks and all the best.
Another UK AF101 user here. I know it’s late, but any chance of a referral?
Love the video 🙂
Many thanks,
David

Thanks very much!
Thanks for the referral. H
Your welcome!
Hi Erik,
could you please send me a referall? I’d like to test few Tilta products. Thanks a lot, Martin
check my blog for coupon codes.
Hi Erik,
Great review of Tilta base plate!
Just what i’m looking for 🙂
I would really love to buy it.
Could you please help me to get access to the shop?
Thanks in advance.
Erik, thanks for taking the trouble to make your equipment reviews. I’d been looking at this product for a while now, but you were the first person who put it into context size wise. I had not realised how big it is! It’s not easy putting together a rig with high expectations of good usability, when buying sight unseen from the web, but I had enough confidence after watching your review to place an order.
I’ve also looked at your TrusMT follow focus review. I am mainly buying for my XF300, because I need a means to mount my monitor and other accessories, but the benefits of a follow focus are obvious, and the TrusMT looks promising. I’ll have to try and find someone with the same setup on the forums to see how well they work together.
You have also sold me on the idea of buying direct from China via eBay. Tilta and TrusMT products are a whole lot cheaper there than on the New Zealand auction site TradeMe.
Thanks again.
Hi Erik,
Great review! I’ve been looking for ways to turn a FS700 into an efficient handheld camera. The BS-T03 baseplate seems a good foundation to build a solid rig that’s not too unwieldy and draws as little attention as possible. If you’re still can, would you please send me a referral? In any event, thanks for the genuinely useful service your blog offers your colleagues.
Thanks for the review.
Could you please send me a referral?
Appreciate it!
Hi Erik,
Very helpful video. Thanks!
If you have any referrals left, would you mind sending one my way? Thanks.
Hi Eric,
Brilliant review and the quality of the Tilta rig seems pretty impressive. Being a RED owner, it’s a beauty to have a system with all in for a resonable price. I would be greateful if you can send a referral for Tilta products as there is a real possibility of ordering a number of their products.
Many thanks,
Antonio
Thanks Antonio. I have heard of people using the baseplates with the Red camera. Hopefully Tilta will have their new line out soon. Enjoy!
Hi Erik,
just saw your impressive review! Can you please tell me what`s your mount between the AF 101 and the DP4 EVF?
Many thanks
Leonhard
I bought the EVF bracket from http://www.westsideavstore.com/index.php?p=home
I dont believe they make them anymore but you could email them and see.
Thanks for reading my blog!
Hello Erik,
Great review on the base plate. Your like the only one on youtube really giving a decent review on it. I am going to guy the base plate, FF, and the grip arm but was wondering if it is cheaper to purchase directly from Tilta or not. I hear you need a referral. Do you still have any referral give aways available so I can get my foot in the door. I was also curious as to how loose the follow focus is since it said in your review that it is designed more fore cine lenses. I am using Nikon Ais lenses which are quite smooth but not to loose so do you think this follow focus will be fine? Thanks again for your review.
Thanks. I’m glad I was able to help you. The Tilta Follow focus has a cool feature to increase the tension or dampening for different type of lenses, It’s heavy but well made. I think it work well for DSLR or cine lenses. I sent you a referral. 🙂
Tilta gear is very nice indeed, I bought mine at cinegearpro.com based in London.
Wondering how this would configure with the URSA. I’ve been looking everywhere for something that makes the URSA shoulder-mountable and not seeing a lot of stuff out there specifically designed for the URSA.
