Side By Side. Documentry On The Future And Past of “Film”
I just watched Side By Side the Keanu Reeves produced documentary on the future and the past of film, and I enjoyed the movie a lot. He interviews so many big hitters and gets some objective opinions on film/digital capture and how we got where we are now. All film makers should see this documentary, it’s very interesting. I’m not doing a review here just want to let you know that for a limited time you can watch it for free on Netflix if you subscribe to the streaming service. The big question is how the heck are we going to archive all the digital movies.
Brief synopsis from Side By Side website
The documentary investigates the history, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation. We show what artists and filmmakers have been able to accomplish with both film and digital and how their needs and innovations have helped push filmmaking in new directions. Interviews with directors, cinematographers, colorists, scientists, engineers and artists reveal their experiences and feelings about working with film and digital — where we are now, how we got here and what the future may bring.
