Atomos Shogun Delayed Until November For Firmware Tweaking
I was poking around the web and stumbled on this bit of info. I’m trying to get it confirmed but for now this is what I got.
UPDATE.
I spoke to Atomos today and the delay is due to firmware tweaking. This could be added features too since it’s all in the firmware. Either way looks like a small price to pay to get it right and if we get some added features too then so be it.
The Atomos Shogun will not ship in early October but now in early November. Atomos wants to “future proof” it since the Shogun has a Powerful Generation 2 Processor, Sata 3 @ 6Gb/s, Large FPGA that is upgradable with the following features.
- 12G-SDI 4KP60/50 Support
- 4:4:4 10bit
- 3D LUTs
- FS700 RAW decode
- Full 4K – 4096 x 2160 support
Full 4K is nice and 4:4:4 10bit is crazy!
Important to note that the list above is for future upgrades and not new features that will be added now.
I believe it’s the Shogun’s processor (Powerful Generation 2 Processor, Sata 3 @ 6Gb/s, Large FPGA) that was upgraded from the original one. It’s much more powerful allowing for more features to be unlocked later making the Shogun last longer for cameras that are coming out with 4K options.
More info when it comes.

I suspect we’ll see a firmware upgrade for the GH4 released about the same time that fixes the cameras hdmi output problems
I hope so. I really want to see record trigger. 10bit 4:2:2 goodness!
