New Panasonic GH4 Update Adds HDMI Record Trigger For Odyssey Q7+ & Shogun, But What About V-Log?
Panasonic release new firmware update for the Panasonic GH4 but the heavily rumored V-Log isn’t included in this update. Oh well….
What is included is record trigger and for me thats a BIG DEA! because Panasonic has been late to the party with this feature for a long time. This means you can now trigger the Odyssey 7Q+ and Atomos products with the updated firmware.
Here is what we get with the new firmware.
- Time code can be embedded to the HDMI output signal.
– Selectable in Motion Picture menu : [Time Code]>[HDMI Time Code Output]* Available when DMC-GH4 or DMW-YAGH are connected with the products of ATOMOS Global Pty. Ltd. or the products complying with the extended specifications of ATOMOS Global Pty. Ltd..
- RSS (Recording Start/Stop) signal can be embedded to the HDMI output signal.
– Selectable in Motion Picture menu : [HDMI Rec Output]>[HDMI Recording Control]* Available when DMC-GH4 or DMW-YAGH are connected with the products of ATOMOS Global Pty. Ltd. or the products complying with the extended specifications of ATOMOS Global Pty. Ltd..
- FHD at 30p/25p native output via HDMI is available while recording video in FHD at 30p/25p.
– Selectable in Motion Picture menu : [HDMI Rec Output]>[1080/30p Set.] or [1080/25p Set.]
- Playback performance of recorded 4K video is improved.
- [Time Lapse Shot] Program is fixed to start recording at the designated time even when [summer time] is set.
I sure was hoping for the V-Log profile but I guess we will have to wait and see if that will ever come to GH4, Until then I’m very pleased with record trigger via HDMI for external recorders.

Hi Eric,
I enjoy your website. I tried the GH4 update and it won’t work. Did you actually update your firmware from 2.0 to 2.1? I don’t see how it could work with the Panasonic files posted. I used a Mac – they seem to favor Microsoft – I didn’t try on a MS machine.

This is the link. Format an older, smaller card in-camera, then copy this file (after unzipping) to the root directory of the sd card. You should be good to go…
