Sigma Introduces A New ART lens. The 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM

Sigma ART 24mm

The ART line is special. Very fast and sharp lenses. I have the 50mm and 18-35 versions. They are great for video and have a very nice build. The 35mm ART is also very popular and super sharp. A nice feature on all the ART lenses is the mount can be changed to another type by sending it to Sigma making these a lens that will stay with many cameras as you move to the next latest and greatest. AF performance always suffers when you use adapters making the lens practically useless as a fast action stills lens. The 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM retails for $849. Thats a pretty good price since wide angle lenses are usually more expensive than say a 50mm.

This looks like a nice set right here! 24mm 1.4 Art, 35mm 1.4 Art, and the 50mm 1.4 Art. All 1.4. Just take my money Sigma! 😀

Now a word from Sigma.

The Sigma 24mm 1.4 DG HSM Art is a state of the art wide-angle prime lens designed for Full Frame camera but can work with APS-C sensors as well. Using over 50 years of lens making experience, particularly the knowledge gained from the 35mm 1.4 Art and the 50mm 1.4 Art, the 24mm 1.4 Art is aimed at being the new standard for fast aperture wide angle prime lenses. The latest optical design allows for the utmost in image quality with careful attention paid to the edge to edge performance. An optimized power layout places the aspherical lens elements in the rear and adjusts the incidence angle of light source allowing for great performance wide open. Using premium FLD & SLD glass elements, the lens brings aberrations and distortion to a minimum, an issue many wide-angle lenses suffer from. Wide class leading performance, this lens is ideal for wedding photography, landscape photography, videography, astrophotography, lowlight/indoor photography and event photography. The Sigma 24mm Art is compatible with the USB dock to update and customize and is also compatible with the Mount Conversion Service. A staple procedure for the Global Vision lines, every lens will be tested using the proprietary “A1” measuring system.

The 24mm ART (38mm equivalent FOV on APS-C) now joins the 30mm F1.4 DC HSM35mm F1.4 DG HSM50mm F1.4 DG HSM, 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, and 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM,

The full-time manual focusing mechanism is a cool feature. It allows the user to fine tune the focus even while in AF mode. This feature was first introduced with the 50mm ART lens.

Sigma also has this USB Dock to keep the firmware updated on all the ART lenses. It’s a great idea. When the Canon C100 got a Dual Pixel AF upgrade Sigma released an update so the autofocus would work better.
