First Sample Footage of 120FPS with the Canon C300 MKII
First off I don’t know the cinematographer who shot this and the description is very vague. Can’t confirm it’s actually a C300 MKII either. So with that I will comment on what I see and I have to say I’m a little disappointed in the footage. It’s soft and noisy. Two things you really don’t want to see from a $16K camera. Here is a comment by the cinematographer regarding the issue.
Hi. I did not see a lot of issues regarding detail/sharpness in 120 fps mode. However, when you shoot in clog2 in 120fps, I see a lot of grain/noise. Please take a look at “before” footage and you will notice a lot of digital noise in shadow area. I am checking if this is caused by clog 2 or slow motion mode.
I have used C100, C100 MKII, C300, and 1DC and I have never had this kind of noise at ISO 800-1000.
Part of me thinks the footage was under exposed. This is a common problem when shooting log footage. Usually best to shoot one or two stops over. With the C300 MKI and C-Log it wasn’t really an issue that way but if you underexpose log it looks really bad period.
As for the softness well thats another issue. Doesnt look like motion blur just soft. I wish more info was provided with the test footage. He also stated the 12bit 444 HD video couldn’t be opened on his computer. The original resolution I believe is 1080P.
What do you think?

Very disappointing. I guess this is where me and the c-series have to split ways. Bring on that 50% cheaper FS7!
I would wait to see more samples from other users. I think technically the footage had some issues that are possibly the fault of the operator.
To be honest I was kind of already set on the fs7 vs the c300mk2. I just can’t justify it when it’s double
The cost and no 4k slomo option 🙁 I just want as much work as possible as owner/operator, plus would even consider renting it out minus myself as operator. Whattya think? Think there’s enough clients in San Diego hungry for 10bit 4k to make this a good decision?
well i guess this is where me and the trusty c-series have to part ways. Not a bad thing considering the price of the competition is a 50% difference in my favor. Bring on the FS7!
Looks great… On my iPhone!
