Sony Teases New FS Camera Is Coming Plus Another Huge Price Drop. F3 Now $3995.
It’s been a crazy couple of days with Sony. First the FS700 price drop now the F3 goes below $4K and this morning a tease for a new FS camera. A new FS camera? How on earth can Sony have yet another FS camera?
“No More Limits. Register to be the first to hear about the ground breaking NEW FS Camcorder”
On September 12 2014 Sony introduced the FS7. That makes it one year old in eight days as of writing this post on Sept 4th. Camera cycles with Sony are getting very short. If I bought a FS7 in the last six months I would be a little concerned. Sure you probably used the camera for paid gigs but the resale just drops so much when a new model comes to market. The only bright side is high end cameras are cheaper than they have ever been so upfront cash is less too. Maybe this balances it out a little. On the other hand Sony more than the others seems to not want to hold on to new technology. Instead they are rushing it to market and almost competing with their own products.
At this time I’m in a good position because I parked some cash after selling three GH4’s and my first generation Canon C100. I wasn’t ready to buy another A-Cam just yet and now I am. My #1 choice right now is the Blackmagic Design URSA Mini 4.6K. So now what? I bet you Sony is also thinking the exact same thing. I never expected that The URSA Mini would deliver on time. I know better. I suppose I’m getting more patient these days. You kind of have to be since delivery is always late. Sony might be aiming right at guys like me with parked cash. Hoping they can change my purchase decision.
What has Sony learned? The FS7 was the first in the lineup. FS100 was refined to the FS700. Added missing features like ND filters and 4K option. Even though the 4K option was a mess. I think the same goes with the FS7. It’s a groundbreaking camera going back to a body design built for shoulder shooting to tripod. Some features like the EVF have been a disappointment so this will probably be fixed. The camera is also priced very well. A lot of production friends bought one. Now that I’m thinking about it could also be a less expensive limited feature FS camera. If you look at the image it sits between a FS700 and FS7 so that could make sense too. I also see a small bump in the back that looks like a EVF. Ugh! My head hurts. I think we just need to register with Sony and get the news of what they are cooking up! 😀
The workhorse Sony PMW-F3L now priced at $3995. Instant savings of $10,000.
So with all this are you interested in a lower featured FS camera for less? Does this put the breaks on a camera you had your eye one? Well for me it sure did. We shall see….
