FilmConvert Release GH4 V-LogL Profile. How Well Does it Work?
Panasonic didn’t release a LUT for the GH4 and V-LOGL. Unfortunately they recommend using the VariCam version and I found it to be less than perfect. Now on the other hand if you have FilmConvert you need to download the I was waiting for this and if you have a GH4 with V-LOGL you want this profile.
I just dropped the profile on and set the film FJ 8563 RL. This film stock look seems to make the skin tone look nice. More testing in different lighting will be needed but this is very promising if you have had issues getting a grade with the Panasonic LUT.

There is a dedicated LUT from Panasonic for use with the GH4 vlog, you can download it for free from the bottom of this page:

That isn’t a “dedicated” LUT made for the GH4 this “VLog_to_V709_forV35_ver100.cube” is the same one used for the VariCam and DVX200. Panasonic needs to create one for the specific cameras. The sensors are not the same.
Hi Eric,
What lens are you using? I really like the combination of softness and detail as pictured above. I am not happy with any of my lenses iI currently own – for my GH4 or my A7s. The Zeiss / Sony FE 24-70 is not bad but I don’t like the Focus by wire. Tamron 24-70 is fine for things close but seems to lose detail at infinity and landscapes etc. look soft. Panansonic lens – 12-35 2.8 seems okay but not quite there. I the look your lens has above. Thanks for your time.
With the GH4 I always used Lumix lenses. This was with the 35-100 at 2.8. I can get nice compressed backgrounds that are out of focus with the longer lens. I’d try a 85mm
Question…did this help fix the magenta blocking issues and banding problems that are prevelent in the vlog profile? I’m hesitant on spending that 100 bucks for vlog with all the problems….I already have the full film convert so getting the profile is the easy part it’s the vlog which is the bigger bone of contention…
Thanks for the response
Compared to everything else video, $100 is nothing! I think the best case uses are if you are recording in 422 10bit with extenrnal recorder. No brainer if your trying to match with other cams as GH4 definitely has unique look baked in.
I come from a photography background and enjoy the ability to make a custom LUT for each scene/location in photoshop. I haven’t notice the macro blocking but I shoot mostly outdoors. I think the issues are more prevalent on solid walls and such.
Great composition and lighting. How are you lighting your backlit subject? I see a relatively small catchlight in his eye bring up the shadows on the camera right side of the face.
Thanks. I use a Matthews bounce board and a SunBounce swatter. It’s all in this article.
