Sony FS5 Firmware Update Fix For Output Plus Face Detection AF in 4K
The issue with the FS5 is it has limitations on outputting simultaneously when using HDMI out and recording internally plus using the on board LCD/EVF. Boy that’s complicated! Here is the updated info that is in the new manual.
Check out this interview by newsshooter.com with Atoms for the full description of the limitation. A test will follow after viewing 😀
Okay got that?
Sony today released a firmware update to address some of the FS5 issues but a full fix won’t be possible due to hardware restraints. So the best they can do is this.
Firmware 1.1 will allow simultaneous use of UHD internal recording & UHD HDMI, or HD SDI output at the same time, however no video will be displayed on the on-board LCD.
The FS5 can output UHD via HDMI and use the on-board LCD, however not be able to record internally. It’s the Rubik’s Cube of outputs. A feature I find pretty useful in the A7s II is Face Detection AF and the FS5 with the update will now have it too.
