Here is another little test but this one is on the air! I know auto focus isn’t very good in general with most video cameras. The exception is the Canon’s Dual Pixel AF but Sony has made some advances and the Sony FS5 that I have on loan has Face Detection track auto focus. I like this idea a lot and it seemed to work pretty well with the A7s II. I think it works better on the A7r II.

I shoot these stand ups a lot for my sweeps promos I produce. I like adding the reporter in them when we can. I also like a little movement so the subject isn’t just standing in place delivering the lines. Here the reporter takes a few steps toward the camera and the Face Detection feature tracked him no problem. Very cool to have. I did shoot this handheld held but now wish I grabbed my monopod. I need to try a few more tests to see how consistent it is but it sure is a handy feature. I can see using this for interviews with people that like to move a lot or rock forward. That drives me crazy!

The camera setting is Slog2 with S-GamutCINE 5500K . Lightly graded in Premiere Pro with Lumetri Color

I used the Sigma 30mm DN ART lens set to f2.8 with the FS5. This inexpensive little lens is actually really good. I use primarily with the Sony a6000 and maybe with the a6300? It really is a fine lens and as you can see it worked well.

And last but not least the Sony UWP-D16 wireless. I love this kit! If you shoot with a Sony camera that has the active audio hot shoe then you should really consider getting this system. The hot shoe becomes the input for the audio so no XLR cable is required. Just slip the receiver in the hot shoe and set the menu to use the hot shoe for the channel you want and done. The A7 cameras as well as the Sony a6000 and new a6300 all work with the Sony UWP-D16 wireless
