Sony a6300 has Arrived! Let the Testing Begin

March 18, 20160 Comments

I’m a big fan of the a6000. I goes with me everywhere because it’s size and well it takes really good pictures and the HD video is also very good. When the Sony a6300 was announced I knew I want to try it out. Internal 4K video, new audio input. No headphone jack? Ugh! and the fastest auto focus system to date. What’s not to like? Maybe a few things I have heard. So far the rolling shutter and possibly overheating are two big ones. I can live with the rolling shutter for the most part because my shooting style won’t make it problem but if I go handheld “home video mode” with a larger lens I can see those little micro jitters are probably going to not look so good. Still need to test this The second big one. Overheating. Ah it’s so fun staring at a camera for 30 minutes to see if it will overheat. 😀 I have seen test that claim it doesn’t and seen ones that show it does. So many factors involved like environment. How hot is it in the room or is it humid and hot outside. Are you gripping the body or keeping it on when not shooting? Lots of variables.

All I can do is shoot a lot and see what happens. I’m excited to report that the Metabones and the Sigma 18-35 work very well in stills mode. Best performance so far. I se a little glitch right before it locks. Meatiness probably needs an update. It locks auto focus so much faster now. No hunting really. Very usable. Is it native fast? No but it it’s very usable. Video is next. I also have a CAME-TV handheld 3 Axis gimbal that I want to put the Sony a5300 on. I’m impressed with the CAME-TV. A much improved design over the Nebula 4000 I tested a while back. No tools and super easy to balance plus no tuning software is needed. Huge plus. I’m looking forward to playing with the a6300 in the next few weeks and sharing my thoughts with you.
