Sony FS5 Firmware V2.0 With RAW Out now Available

Here is what the new Sony FS5 firmware gets you.

New V2.0 update.

1.     The ND filter density can now be adjusted automatically.
2.     Shooting and recording in RAW mode is now supported. (“CBKZ-FS5RIF” (sold separately) is required)
3.     The zebra function has been enhanced, allowing you to select two types of setting. Also, the level settings can now be adjusted in 1% increments.
4.     You can now select the audio that is output in the headphones.
5.     You can now acquire and record position information when shooting using the GPS function.

The big one is the RAW output to a recorder that is capable like the Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ and Apollo. Below is a the lowdown straight from Mitch on the RAW capture. The recorder also needs a paid RAW bundle to work.

the Sony CBKZ-FS5RIF 4K Raw license for the FS5 is $600 and will be available through Sony Pro authorized resellers. Not sure when this will be available. Seems odd that it wasn’t announced along with the V2.0 firmware.

The second feature I like a lot and think its revolutionary is the variable ND filter. With V2.0 the neutral density on the FS5 can now be adjusted automatically. This is going to give the FS5 a smooth transition that will keep you from having to use the iris or ISO for exposer. Such a cool feature and very handy for run and gun situations.
