Sony FS5 RAW Upgrade CBKZ-FS5RIF Now Available
Sony FS5 RAW Upgrade CBKZ-FS5RIF is now available from a few authorized Sony dealers. My good friends at Texas Media Systems has them in stock for $600. Give them a call if you want it today. I’m not clear how the install will go. If you buy it and install it please leave a comment on how it went and if the image quality is worth the price. Very curious to see. The FS7 RAW thing still isn’t fixed and I’m glad I didn’t invest $2000 on that XDCA-FS7 Extension Unit.
Happy RAW shooting people!
The CBKZ-FS5RIF upgrade licence allows the PXW-FS5 camcorder to output 4K (4096×2160) RAW at 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p and 59.94p, and 2K RAW at 100, 120, 200 or 240 fps as 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p, and 59.94p. While outputting 4K/2K RAW, it is possible to simultaneously record XAVC HD on SD memory cards in the camcorder’s internal dual media slots. One application of this could be that the RAW recording is used for production and XAVC HD for on-set review. Approximately 4 seconds of cached 4K RAW can be output at 100 or 120 fps as 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p or 59.94p.
PXW-FS5 requires Version 2.0 firmware or above.

Here is how the install procedure goes. Check out Paul Antico’s Anticipate Media site for the full experience he had testing with the Atomos Shogun.
WARNING. Do not incorrectly input your Unique ID for your camera. If you input the wrong ID YOU CAN BRICK the update and not be able to redo it.
@Anticipate_M Bricked my key….. Wrong camera ID number, left off one “0”……. The system is sooooooo dumb pic.twitter.com/nwbWk6XDCl

I tested this on the original Atomos Shogun. It works – if you record 30 or 24p. (It’ll display 60p but not record it). It even displays and records the full DCI 4K which surprised me. It will not however record any 60p or HFR in 4K or 2K; you need a newer Shogun (Inferno?) or Odyssey 7Q+ for that.
1. Buy the $600 upgrade license from a dealer (I used Texas Media Systems– Terry and Clint are great!)
2. Get the box
3. Get piece of paper in box
4. Go to very confusing website from Sony Japan
5. Sign up for site and enter odd validation codes
6. Enter purchase key
7. Enter Unique ID for your camera
8. Create license key file (you only can do this ONCE so don’t mess up)
9. Download license key to your SD card
10. Insert card into camera
11. Go into “option” and install the key
12. Now you have RAW (DCI 4K no less). In 60/30/24, plus burst 4K and 2K modes.
Thanks Paul for the install breakdown! Defantaly check out Paul’s full write up.

Hi, I got the install file out for my sony FS5. After I copy to the SD card and opened the option tab on the camera, it said “No Install Key” Do you happen to experience this? Do I need to make any change?
Thanks
