New Sony a6500 Videos in 4K and High Frame Rates

November 1, 20163 Comments

A couple of new videos showing the Sony a6500 in 4K and at 120fps. I don’t know what’s more impressive. The camera or the guys holding those firework torches! That has got to burn! The new Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS Lens also is used in several shots.

[Background Information of the movie]
This movie depicts the traditional Large hand-held Cylindrical Fireworks (Tezutsu Fireworks) of Japan’s Chubu Region.
Tezutsu fireworks are made by packing gunpowder into a one-meter-long bamboo pipe that is then handheld by the participants.
The scenes between 0:470:57 depict the ignition ceremony undertaken before igniting the large-scale fireworks.
The igniter who holds the ignition stick climbs to the top of the large-scale fireworks to conduct a ritual that involves writing the Japanese character for water with the fiery stick. During this ritual, a guard covers the opening to the large-scale fireworks to ensure nothing is accidentally ignited.

The video looks great! Nice detail and the noise seems very low. Cant wait to get my copy!!!!

The α6500 can shoot high-image-quality Full HD (up to 100Mbps) footage with AF tracking even at a high frame rate of 120fps (100fps in PAL), allowing users to enjoy high quality slow motion movies made by post-editing on a PC. Otherwise, it can also record slow motion & quick motion movies internally in S&Q mode. Frame rates from 1 fps to 120fps (100fps in PAL) can be selected in eight steps for up to 60x quick motion and 5x slow motion* and recorded at up to 50 Mbps with full-HD quality.

The high frame rate shots look a little muddy. Could be the dark scene causing the codec to do this. It’s great to have full HD at 120FPS in a camera in this price range. As of now it looks like the a6500 will start shipping first week of December. Pre-order one from B&H

Great stuff. I would much rather a real world situation like an interview.
