Rode Introduces Updated Videomic Pro +
My go to on camera mic for mirrorless cameras and hybrids has been the Rode VideoMic Pro. It’s a workhorse. Now Rode has added some really nice features and upgrades making what was already a great on camera mic even better.
RØDEShow 2017 New Product Releases from RØDE Microphones on Vimeo.
The VideoMic Pro + shares the same circuitry from the Stereo VideoMic X with separate control for output level and two stage highpass filter settings of 75 and 150Hz plus a high frequency shelf setting. Thats a lot more control than before.
The mic will ship with a locking 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack cable for common camera connectivity, but the VideoMic Pro + will also connect to smartphones via Rode’s SC line of cables for true high quality mobile capture. You won’t need adapters to use it.
The VideoMic Pro + now uses two AA batteries instead of a 9 volt battery or Rode’s new LBI high capacity Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. The former 9 volt battery powered the VideoMic Pro for 75 hours. With the new LB1 you will get 100 hours of service with one charge and can be recharged and used with the USB connector on the side of the VideoMic Pro +. Hows that for powering options!
Another nice upgrade is the VideoMic Pro + now has a feature that will turn the mic on and off when it detects your camera is powered on or off. I love this! I cant tell you haw many times i’ve forgot to turn it off and drained the battery or even worse forgot to turn it on. Ugh. It happens but now it won’t! The 3.5mm cable to connect to camera is now removal. Now you can choose from several different output options like the SC7 TRS to TRSS cable for different types of cameras.
The windshield has been replaced and upgraded with an all new microfiber flocked cover that’s larger than the previous model. The capsule also sits higher up from the base of the microphone allowing for the larger more effective windscreen.
All in all some very nice upgrades to this very popular microphone. Pricing and availability coming soon.
