Reviewing the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K

Erik shooting with the Pocket 4K

I had the BMD Pocket Cinema Camera 4K in for a Newsshooter.com review but only for two weeks. Not a lot of time for a working DP to know all the ins and outs of a new piece of kit let alone a cinema camera!

On the final day before sending the camera back to Blackmagic Design I had a studio shoot. I felt confident enough in this controlled one-shot environment that I could use the Pocket 4K for the shoot. I used the excellent Lumix 12-35. with the one-shot autofocus feature that works pretty well with the Lumix lens and recorded directly to an Anglebird 512GB SSD2go PKT Solid-State Drive. Anglebird has a combo pack for the Pocket 4K that comes with a 512GB SSD2go PKT and a 256GB AV Pro CFast 2.0 Card for $399.90.

Pocket Cinema Camera 4KFor audio, I used the mini XLR with a Sanken COS-11D lavalier mic. Love my COS11. Such a great mic! This was a very good test for both video and audio.

I know you might have some questions and I would love to answer them all but please wait a little longer for the review as I won’t be covering them here on the blog. I will say the camera is interesting and as usual not perfect. No such thing as a perfect camera right? Review coming very soon on Newsshooter.com
