Sony FS7 Firmware 3.0 Released with some Nice Updates and Fixes

It’s arrived! Firmware 3.0 for the Sony FS7 can be found here.

So whats in the Sony FS7 3.0 update? Lets break it down.

At this time I haven’t had the chance to update my FS7 so my comments for now are only preliminary on each function. I’ll update later today and revise the post.

1.) Focus Magnification function is improved.
– Support for magnification area position adjustment
– Magnification resolution improvement

This feature is pretty good. My friends with the new C300 MKII would like this one. I only use 4X since 8X is just muddy and is impossible to focus with it. It should just be removed as an option. Looking forward to the improvements.

Being able to change the position of the magnification is a major improvement too.

2.) Support for “2K Full”, “2K Center” setting in Image Scan Mode

This feature basically crops the image to a Super16 size. If you want to use a B4 broadcast lens this setting and an adapter will work very well and it will be 2K. You can also with an adapter use Super16 lenses. That might be a creative look. Would love to try this.

3.) Support for Interval Recording function

I was hoping for this option. Now shooting a time lapse will be much easier.

4.) Expand lowest value of Zebra level to 0%

If you use Zebras having the full range to 0% is a nice update

5.) Support for Noise Suppression setting in Cine EI mode

With the base ISO of 2000 in CINE EI noise could be an issues in certain situations especially with Slog3. Now you can add some noise reduction in camera. Good to have this. Noise reduction in post can be a rendering nightmare so cleaning it up a little in camera can be a nice time saver.

6.) Video Signal Monitor usability is improved.

I’ll have to see exactly what this means. I do love a mystery!

7.) The operability of “Iris setting” using the “Iris dial” and the “assignable dial” is improved.

Less lag and overall performance boost I hope. The lag using the menu is annoying.

8.) FS-RAW image quality and operation stability improvement

I don’t have the RAW back so this one will have to be done by others.

9.) Overall stability and operability of the camera is improved

And the closer is….. FS7 Overall stability and operability improved. Have to love that one for a close! I need that update for little ol’ me!

Again I’ll run the update tonight and report back. Hopefully I don’t brick the thing! 😀
