DJI Teasing The OSMO Pocket 4 For April 16th Release
The OSMO Pocket 3 is a fun and capable camera gimbal combo. I have the Pocket 3 and used it in a few professional broadcast environments with excellent results. When you need to move the production along faster, the OSMO Pocket 3 delivers. If I had used a mirrorless camera and a gimbal, it would have taken much longer and been physically harder to use. I shot all the intros and outros for this NBC 7 special, “Notice To Appear. Inside San Diego’s Immigration Court,” with the OSMO Pocket 3. For the static shots, I used the Canon C300 MKIII. We shot this in one day. The results were very good. Again, if I had used a larger gimbal setup, it would have been much harder on my body and slower.
The integration with the DJI Mic 2 is also a strong selling point. I did have some pairing issues, but they were resolved, and I got right back to work. I like the DJI Mic 2 because I can use my Sanken COS-11D mics and have a 32-bit float backup as well. Thankfully, we didn’t need the backup. You can also monitor the audio with USB-C headphones attached to the Pocket 3. This is a wonderful little setup.
Now, the new OSMO Pocket 4 enters with what looks some nice upgrades.
I’ll be at NAB 2026 with Newsshooter.com and have a meeting with DJI scheduled. It will be great to get my hands on one and see if it’s worth the upgrade. I have a feeling it will. But that is also the path I generally take.
Leaked Technical Specifications
- Sensor: 1-inch CMOS, 50MP, with 14-stop dynamic range.
- Video Capabilities: 4K up to 120 fps, with potential 6K support, alongside 2x lossless zoom.
- Storage & Speed: 107GB built-in storage (replacing the primary reliance on microSD), with 800 MB/s transfer speeds.
- Display: 2-inch rotatable OLED touchscreen.
- Audio: 4-channel audio output.
- Stabilization: 3-axis mechanical gimbal (with potential 360° rotation).
- Battery: 1,545 mAh, providing around 200 minutes of recording.
- Physical Design: Lighter, around 116–117g, with potential built-in LED lighting and extra controls.
- Tracking: ActiveTrack 7.0.
I have mixed feelings about the removal of SD Card media. Often, you hand off the footage to an editor, and having to offload from the gimbal to a drive can be a bit of a pain.
Key Upgrades from Pocket 3
- Internal Storage: The inclusion of 107GB onboard storage is a significant upgrade from the previous reliance solely on external MicroSD cards.
- Performance: Improved low-light capability and faster, 4-axis magnetic stabilization (per some reports).
- Weight: Lighter design.
The official launch announcement is on April 16, 2026, at 12 PM (GMT), with a retail price of around $499 for the standard model. There is also a pro version that, I believe, includes more accessories.
What do you think about this new OSMO Pocket 4? Does it have enough to upgrade to, or is it going to be your first OSMO Pocket?
