SanDisk Drops a WHOOPING 1TB SDXC I Card

SanDisk’s Dinest Bahal. “Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB,”

Woof! Thats one big ass SD card! SanDisk going from 64MB to 1TB in 16 years time is crazy. When new high capacity media cards are introduced they always cost a fortune. Well I’m sure this time wount be any different. Currently a 512GB SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC card sells for $346, and you can bet that the 1TB model will be more than double the price.

So why would anyone need such a huge media card? This isn’t for the causal shooter. These cards are for large files like low compression 4K and the next insane resolutions of 6K and 8K video. We now have stills cameras shooting over 40 megapixels and in the RAW format. All these cameras need a lot of storage space but do they need 1TB? I sure hope I don’t because then I’ll need some HUGE archive drives to go with that 1TB SanDisk card 😀

The 1TB card is a prototype so don’t expect to get it in your camera anytime soon. The speed of the card hasn’t been announced yet either but since it’s an Extreme Pro SDXC I it will have at least transfer speeds around 50MBps or 104MBps.

The funny thing is my biggest capacity SD card is 128 GB with room to spare, so I don’t think a 1TB card is in my future anytime soon. Maybe I need to up my megapixel camera game?
