Does the new DJI Mavic Drone Pass the Casey Neistat Test?

If you watch Casey Neistat you know he takes full advantage of all his camera gear shooting his daily blog episodes and he also breaks it a lot too! 😀 I get it since he basically uses consumer quality gear for Vlogging everyday. He also flies his Phantom 4 everyday capturing awesome scenes that really help tell his daily stories.

Now Casey Neistat has the new DJI Mavic. Will it make this drone enthusiast happy?

“Im so psyched about this thing! WOW!”

As for the footage it looks a little soft to me. Nice and stable but kind of mushy. Maybe Casey’s video settings are off. The Mavic focus has to be set in order to get sharp images so I think Casey didn’t set the camera up. Who knows.

I’ve seen much better samples like this one.

As you can see it’s pretty sharp in this video so it must be a focus issue in Casey’s test flight. The Mavic camera doesn’t have a set focus or infinity focus like a GoPro camera. You tap the iPhone screen on the subject that you want to achieve focus on. This is a great feature for when you want to shoot objects closer to the camera, but can screw you if you forget to re-focus on wide panoramic shots. I think we are going to see this issue in a lot of early samples.

READ THE MANUAL PEOPLE 😀

The portability of the Mavic makes me want one. I hate carrying a ton of gear on personal projects and having ariel shots is just so good I can live with a little lesser video quality than the Phantom 4 and to be honest no one will no the difference anyway. Shoot cool stuff and it will impress.

That pretty much sums it up! Honey can I buy a Mavic next month please?
