I’ve been waiting for GH3 Z-Finder Frame Kit to be available and when I was at NAB Zacuto surprised me. I asked them when it would be available and she pulled one out. Done. Just like the ones they make for other popular cameras the GH3 version fits nice and tight. The resolution of the OLED display looks amazing with the Z Finder pro attached. This really is a great system. If you already have a Z-Finder then all you need is the Zacuto Gorilla Plate V2 and Z-Finder Mounting Frame for Panasonic GH3. Retails for $129. If you need the whole kit then the GH3 Z-Finder Pro Kit will get you everything you need listed below for $395.

 GH3 Z-Finder Pro Kit

The GH3 Z-Finder Pro is an optical viewfinder that allows the Panasonic GH3 DSLR camera to have the correct form factor for video. This Z-finder will magnify the LCD screen by 2.5x and has a diopter for specific focus tuning. It cuts out any extraneous light and offers an initial point of stability by pressing your eye against our comfy, large eyecup. The GH3 Z-finder Pro comes with a 40mm diameter Zacuto optical designed lens, anti-fog coated protective covers, and all necessary additional accessories for the Panasonic GH3. The diopter allows you to dial in the focus to match your eye. If you need extra focal points you can use the included Z-Finder Extender Frames. These are semi-permanent stackable frames that attach to the body of the Z-Finder Pro and extend the Z-Finder glass further away from the LCD screen for people who are farsighted.

The GH3 Z-Finder Pro attaches to your Panasonic GH3 with the included Gorilla Plate V2 and Z-Finder Mounting Frame for the GH3. The Z-Finder Mounting Frame for the Panasonic GH3 camera is specifically designed for a Panasonic GH3 and is not compatible with any other cameras or alternate set ups. It will not work when a battery grip is added to the camera or when the camera screen is articulated. The Z-Finder frame attaches to the DSLR Gorilla Plate V2 with two red Z-Finder Thumbscrews which screw directly into the Gorilla Plate V2. The frame has a rubber coating on the back to avoid scratching and to ensure a clean seal with the LCD screen.

You can mount your tripod plate underneath the Gorilla plate to quickly move from handheld to tripod use. There is a 15mm rod port on the underside of the Gorilla Plate V2 controlled by a Zacuto quick release ratcheting lever.

The GH3 Z-Finder Pro Includes:
Z-Finder Pro eyepiece/loupe with 2.5x magnification and diopter
Three (3) Extender Frames
Gorilla Plate V2 and Mounting Frame for the Panasonic GH3

  1. Dear Erik,

thanks for all the information on the Z-Finder. I think I am going to buy one soon. You say that “the resolution of the OLED display looks amazing with the Z Finder pro attached”. If you compare it with the EVF which has a higher resolution: Which method would you prefer for focusing? The EVF or the OLED display with Z-Finder?

I ask myself if a loupe is really necessary for the GH3.

    • I think the OLED with the Z-Finder is better. When you use the GH3’s EVF the center of the EVF is sharper than the corners. With the Zacuto Z-Finder attached to the OLED the image is even and bigger making critical focus much easier. I’m far sighted so I had to use a couple extenders to get the diopter to work right. Hope this helps, and please use the Zacuto links on my site if you decide to get one. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
