This year is the year of 4K and cinema lenses. I’m actually more interested in the later but that’s because I love lenses! At NAB I got a chance to see the new Xenon FF-Prime Lenses and I liked the look and feel. I haven’t had a chance to try them but did play around a little on the demo cameras. These new lenses have a swappable mount. Thats a big deal because it’s important to be able to move your investment to new cameras. Lenses always out live cameras. The focal lengths currently available are 35mm T2.1, 50mm T2.1 and 75mm T2.1. The choice to go with a 75mm is a good one. On s35 size sensors this makes it a really versatile length. They are available in Nikon F, Canon EOS or PL mounts That has you covered. These are full frame lenses that will cover 4K sensors . Additional wide angle and telephoto lenses will be added soon. The Xenon come in at 3.3-pounds. Pretty light for full frame cinema lens. They have a 14 blade apertures that should make for some sexy bokeh. To accommodate filters and other accessories, each lens has a 100mm front diameter and a standard 95mm thread.
The Xenon lenses have 300-degree barrell rotation, and manual focus markings are on both sides of the lens. Great for focus pullers. All lenses are color-matched for consistency.
The new Schneider Xenon FF-Prime lenses will be available in the second half of 2013.
I sure would like to give these a test drive. They look really nice. Price per lens hasn’t been announced as of yet.
