Rokinon Releases 2.8 100mm Macro Lens In 8 Popular Mounts Plus a CINE Version

Rokkinon 100mm lens up

The 100mm macro is a lens I have always wanted and never bought. I dont know why I dont just get one already. Perfect for portraits and bugs or portraits of bugs 😀

Now Rokinon has entered the 100mm macro market but I’m not sure about the price. The Canon mount version is priced at $549. Today you can buy the very popular and very good non IS version Canon macro for the same price with instant $50 savings. The L version with image stabilization will put you back $949. I think it’s going to be a tough sell for Canon and Nikon users but for Sony (A-mount) and Pentex K mount users this could be a good option. About that Alpha mount. Sony is confusing. A-mount, E-mount. Pick one already! Unfortunately if you like me have a Sony A7s you would need to get a $200 adapter to use this version. Rokinon should have made this a E-Mount lens or at least offer that version too. My bad. Yes this 100mm Macro does come in E-Mount as well as 7 other mounts. One miss is this Rokinon is a manual focus lens only. No AF? If you want to use it strictly for video it might be fine but I like to shoot stills too and of course that Dual Pixel AF thing sure is cool on the Cinema EOS cameras.

So as I’m writing this I realized that I would be better off with the Canon version with AF and a E-Mount adapter I already own. Hey I guess I’m going to still want a macro lens for a little while longer.

Now if you want a manual lens and you want it gears then this is a very good option. The CINE version also is available in several popular mounts. It doesn’t have any electronics like the other 8 mounts but is fitted with two gears for focus and iris. The price is a little more coming in at $599 I thinks this version will be very popular especially if you have the other lengths.
