When Ted at Aputure showed me the Bowen S Mount COB 120t I got pretty excited about it. It’s a different style for us video guys. It looks like a strobe! But it’s not. The COB 120t is a hybrid stills/video light. And it’s a very affordable 1.5K watt tungsten comparable output fixture that is a accessory add on machine. Since it’s using a industry standard Bowen S Mount you have access to a ton of lighting control and modifier accessories. Aputure is also making some like a parabolic and focusable fresnel lens and barndoors. On the light stand yolk a umbrella can be mounted too for fast diffusion. I’m excited about these single source bright LED’s.

The Aputure COB 102t can be powered by V-mount or gold mount batteries.
Another fixture coming soon is the LS-c20 mini LED Fresnel. Puts out approximately 120 watts. Focusable too. Great little hair light and cuts really well. Can run off a portable battery too since it’s such a low voltage light fixture.

I was interested in these as a replacement for my Fiilex P360ex kit but when calculating the photometrics the Aputure cob120 seem to put out an equivalent to 450-500w not 1.5k. Their using the light output at .5 meters as their quantifier, the lumens dropoff at 1 and 2 meters give more accurate results of the light output and compared to a 1.5k its way below.
