Just Grab The GoPro For A Couple of Shots.

Black Boxes News Promo shot With GoPro from Erik Naso on Vimeo.

A blog about using a GoPro? Sure! Why? Because it was the easiest and coolest shoot I had in a few weeks!
I didn’t really have any footage to use for this spot. I needed to turn it around in a day and all I had to work with was a couple of shots of the black box. I found an airplane shot from the archives. My producer said lets get a GoPro and shoot some car shots. I liked it! I went home and grabbed my GoPro and my SmallHD DP6 monitor. I wasn’t sure if I needed to get a car mount or not so I picked one up at a sporting goods store on the way back to the station. This is the beauty of the GoPro. You can practically get one at a liqueur store these days.

Off we went. After all I didn’t need that many shots. The spot is only :15.
We spent about thirty minutes driving around while I grabbed several angles. This was the first time I used a monitor when shooting with the GoPro. Makes framing so easy and I got so many usable shots in such a short amount of time. No guessing whether it will look good or not. I highly recommend using a monitor if you get in this situation. I converted the footage to ProRes. Found some sound effects and edited the spot in what must have been a land speed record. Love it when it’s easy!

The GoPro is such a great tool and just plain fun to use. If you don’t have one get one! Trust me you will find a way to use it to make your production a little more interesting. And don’t forget to bring that monitor!

Oh and the little cameo at the end  wasn’t in the spot but you knew that right?
