Aputure Puts “Speedbooster” Like Focal Reducer Into The New DEC Pro EF to MFT Adapter

DEC Pro Prototype. Solid metal base replaces plastic one on the DEC. Now the wireless transmitter is attached to the side giving more room for a larger battery. I would like to see this in the DEC too. Much nicer.

That’s not all it does. It also has the DEC wireless iris and focus controls like the original DEC adapter does. I checked it out on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and so far it looks really promising. The DEC EF to E-Mount I have is a prototype but functions as a release version for the Sony E-Mount, but what we have here is crazy good.

Aputure has added a focal reducer giving one stop more of light and making the Canon lenses wider on the Micro Four Thirds format cameras. This isn’t a new idea but no one has been able to match the Metabones Speedbooster yet. Some have tried but the quality isn’t close. Aputure tells me that they have made a better lens that is sharper in the corners and that the glass is made in a factory very well known for optics. Thats all I can say for know. I’m looking forward to testing the new DEC Pro.

I have a Speedbooster for my GH4 and it’s a very important part of my kit. If this adapter is on par and with the added wireless controls added in it’s going to be a huge hit. Oh and retail price could be as low as $600. Wow!.

  1. I know the DEC Pro is probably in its early stages but do you know approximately the timeframe that the new speedbooster version will be released?

  2. Yes, pls, some timeframe this could happen…. I m holding my purchase just because of that…. Also, will Nikon to MFT going to be available? I went the Nikon route precisely because of the problems with Canon Ef metabones speedbooster on GH4…

  3. best news i’ve read in a while! This is awesome. If they can come up with a specific BMPCC version like the metabones (0,58x with an increased 1 2/3 stop of light) this would be killer

  4. I recently bought a Ronin M for my GH4, and after struggling with controlling focus and aperture, the DEC product has my interest. The Pro version with a focal reducer REALLY has my interest. I’m glad they moved the battery away from the bottom, as it extended well below small cameras and made mounting difficult. The new design looks ackward in other ways, but I’m still interested in it. Its hard to guess when this will appear, so I think I’ll buy a Metabones for now, and keep waiting for the DEC Pro to appear.

    • Per email I received from Aputure, the next version with the focal reducer may not be available until April 2016. The current version is available from more photo retail channels like B&H and Adorama.
