A New Way For Me to Share and Review Gear. Vlogging

I’ve been wanting to Vlog for a while now and for me it’s kind of second nature documenting things with a camera. My carrier started as a photojournalist. Telling stories about what other people do is rewarding and fun. Telling “your” story is a little different and challenging. That’s why I want to try Vloging. It gets me out of my comfort zone. Sounds crazy after reading this!

My first attempt with this crazy genre is the video above. Then this one…..

I had fun shooting it plus everyone likes BTS videos! And the latest….

My favorite part is having the play button on my face. Perfect!

My goal with doing this Vlog thing is to mash up life with camera reviews. Mix things up a little and have some fun. I wish I could do these weekly but my work schedule makes that pretty tough to do, but I’ll do my best to keep creating new content and of course showing new gear to you.

RX100 IV closed

As for the Sony RX100 IV it’s a crazy fun and innovative little beast of a camera. I’ve had it for about a week now and really like it. Yes it expensive at around $950 but it goes where no compact camera has gone before. Like that Star Trek reference?

I need to shoot more with it but I can say that it does everything pretty well. HD and 4K look great. A little on the jello side in 4K so don’t zoom in and to action camera shots with it. Wide and smooth is the way to go. In HD it looks really great. I used it for a promo shoot already! It’s in the last vlog video. Yes you have to suffer through it….

RX100 IV EVF

The EVF is a very clever design. I first I wasn’t sure I liked it until I popped my eye into the super sharp OLED pixel packed display. Wow is this thing sharp. I turned off the power down feature when you push it back into the body. Thankfully you can in the menu. Speaking of the menu. If you have ever used a Sony camera lately then you will be right at home with the horrible structure. :-D. I’ll leave it at that. Another great feature is the camera has a electronic ND filter. This is very handy for video shooting outside or if you want to get that aputure open for a shallow depth portrait. Nice touch.

I haven’t shot a lot of stills with the RX100 IV yet but the ones I have captured are well pretty damned good. The 1″ sensor can give you nice shallow depth of field added with the f1.8 aperture on the wide side. Really impressive for such a tiny camera, oh and the screen flips up for that perfect duck face selfie. Smile… MWAH!

I’ll have more in a future post on the Sony RX100 IV. It really is a feature rich little beast of a camera.
