Blackmagic Video Assist Firmware update 1.1 brings new features, Peaking, Zebra, Zoom & improved performance

Blackmagic Video Asist

The Video Assist just got a whole lot better today with a pretty significant update. Many including me questioned if the Video Assist was ready for primetime with minimal features in place at shipping, but it seems Blackmagic got it updated pretty fast. With the 1.1 update users now have Zebra, Peaking and Zoom in for focusing plus timecode over HDMI and improved battery life. Not bad!

  1. Hey Erik

I was wondering if you could please explain the Timecode over HDMI feature. Will this potentially help reduce issues syncing audio in post when shooting on the mark iii ?

    Thanks

    Alex

  2. Hi Eric! thanks for the update. have you tried new firmware version with the C100. Is the trigger now working over HDMI?
I’ve tried with the 1.0 version and doesn’t work. Also it only records 1080i 50 when you are recording at 24p. No problem with 60p, it records progressive.
    Have you experienced that?
thanks for your posts and social media work. very helpful!
    cheers from spain!

    • I don’t have the Video Assist to test but I don’t think the device will trigger via HDMI. Not sure why. Could be Blackmagic decided to not use the trigger flag in the signal stream. This could easily be added via firmware so hopefully they will later one.
