Inexpensive Softbox Solution for the Aputure Lightstorm LS 1S PLUS DEC LANC Cable Triggers Record!

I first heard of this softbox on DVXuser.com’s Lighting forum and ordered one up to try it out. For $59.99 I figured I couldn’t go wrong. Well…. I’m pretty happy with it. I think if you have space challenges and time too then strapping this softbox on with a little extra scrim on the barndoors is a very good solution.

I shot this video with a Sony a6000 at ISO 250 so you could easily get much more with a higher ISO on any camera and just lower the output of the Lightstorm. I think it’s a very good solution. Audio was also recorded internal with the Sony UWP-D and SMAD-P3 hotshoe adapter. Love this system!

I also used the Aputure DEC Canon to E-Mount adapter with remote focus and now with the new LANC cable I can trigger record on any alpha camera with the remote! This is HUGE!

Good news! Next week i’ll have a Sony a6300 in for review as well. Looks like a busy few weeks a head.

Here is my review of the Aputure Lightstorm LS 1S

  1. Erik, thanks for the review. I’m thinking about picking up a couple of these lights. Can you tell me, in your experience, about how long these will run using battery power? Also, if you do use v-mount batteries, what type do you use for these? I’ve seen some postings saying that some v-mounts will quit after a few minutes due to the draw.

Thank you for any insight you can give!
