Metabones Updates Canon EF to Sony NEX Adapter With Mark IV

Metabones-EF-Adapter

Metabones has updated the EF to Sony NEX adapter to handle Canon lenses better. Just in time for the soon to be released Sony A7s hybrid mirror less camera. What does it exactly do?

This Smart AdapterTM has the following features:

  • True electronic integration of aperture diaphragm – let camera automatically choose aperture in P or S exposure modes, or dial in yourself on the camera body in A or M modes.
  • Powered by camera body. No external power source required.
  • Wide open button (opposite of depth-of-field preview function) makes manual focusing easy.
  • The tripod foot is detachable and compatible with Arca Swiss, Markins, Photo cam ball heads.
  • High performance 32-bit processor and efficient switched-mode power supply.

Enhancement on MARK IV vs. MARK III:

  • The new design of inner housing in MARK IV has a bigger inner hole. Improving the Tilt shift lens preformance.
  • The inner hole is painted with matt coating. This can further reduce the internal reflection.

metabones-EF-NEx-adapter-bigOkay it’s not a big update but if you need to use tilt shift lenses it is. The black matte coating is also a good update. Metabones has really knocked it out of the park with the SpeedBooster and I sure would like to see a Smart Adapter for the Canon EF lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. I have some really nice Canon EF lenses that can’t be used on my GH4. Such a bummer. At least I have a nice set of Lumix lenses.

The Sony A7s is a very versatile camera now as far as optics it can use. Thats a big deal since we tend to keep lenses far longer than any camera and being able to utilize practically and lens on the NEX mount is huge. That was a big appeal for the Af-100 camera and now Sony gets the same versatility but with a super sensitive full frame A7s. The adapter is pricey but worth it. Another plus is you don’t have to power the adapter like the LiveLens for MFT with a 9 vole battery. This Smart Adapter gets juice from the camera. Nice job Metabones! Did I mention I would love to see a EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart Adapter?
