Sony a6300 Used for Xtender Friction Mount Promo Shoot

My good friend Shawn who is the inventor and owner of the Xtender Friction Mount line asked me for some help in shooting a demo for his products. I of course volunteered to help out but only if we can use the new Sony a6300. 😀

Shawn came over and brought his fiction mounts and let me tell you I love his products. They are all very thought out and work extremely well. My two favorite’s are the 2-Shot and the Odyssey 7Q friction mounts and HDMI lock. As you can see in the demo you can go from a hot shoe on your camera to the light post adapter with hot shoe receiver. I get a lot of use from this set up.

I mainly used the awesome Sony 90mm Macro. I love this lens! Very sharp and has OIS for handheld use. It also shrinks the backgrounds so they aren’t distracting.

I set the camera to CINE and Pro color so Shawn wouldn’t have to work to hard on grading it. For this shoot we really didn’t need lots of DR.

I wish I had used the Continuous Auto Focus feature with the slider. Missed opportunity. It really is the best AF on any Sony camera so far. Looking forward to this new Phase Detection AF on the next generation a7s III and a7r III cameras.

The image is so detailed. We shot it in 4K, however the video was edited in HD. This gives you an idea of how that will look.

Overheating…..

Yes this was a issue on the shoot. To learn more about what happened CHECK OUT THIS POST.
It slowed us down for a few minutes but didn’t shut us down.

The rolling shutter didn’t pose any issues with the slider shots so I can work around it. I think with most instances you can too just don’t move the camera really fast and who does that anyway?

The 4K image is really good with the a6300. Lots of detail. This new sensor has a lot of potential. I cant wait to see how Sony will work this new sensor tech into the next generation cameras.

More to come as I continue to test and use the Sony a6300. I have to say the camera is growing on me. I really like the AF in video mode and the stills look great. HD video isn’t that great but 4K is very good. Since the codec is compressed you might as well just shoot 4K and edit in HD if you don’t want to deliver 4K.

Hmmmm? I might have to sell my trusty a600….
