Does this camera look familiar? Well it should but it’s the FS7 II and it comes with a several nice upgrades but don’t worry if you have the original FS7 I don’t think you will need to upgrade. The FS7 II sensor, codec options, audio inputs and autofocus are all the same as the original but Sony added BT.2020 color space.
Lets break down the FS7 II.
New locking E- mount is a nice upgrade. This will take any wobble out of the lens. The mount is also stronger and increases the weight tolerances. I’ve heard of the mount breaking on the original if heaven lenses was left on the body when transporting it in a case.
The body on the FS7 II is almost identicle with a few extra presets that have a bumpy texture on them to make locating easier.
The variable electronic ND filter from the FS5 has made it into the new FS7 II. This is a great feature I hope to see come to a hybrid someday. The variable ND goes from 1/4 to 1/128. The main dial on the grip can now control the variable ND filter.
The arm has been updated with a wing nut design for quick adjustments of the extension. It no longer requires a screw driver.
The EVF rod is now square to prevent rotating, and the shotgun mic holder can be removed without using any tools. The LCD screen is the same however the loupe has been improved to make it easier to take on and off. The FS7 II now comes with a sunshade for the EVF.
The XQD card slots are improved to make access easier.

These are some nice upgrades and the real only technical upgrade is the added BT.2020 color space so I think it’s safe to say if you own a FS7 you won’t be upgrading unless the usability and variable ND has to keen on spending $10K for the FS7 II. The camera will start shipping in January.
