I went to see what’s new at the Team Tilta website only to see this.
And their Facebook page is gone and Twitter account is closed. However the Vimeo page is still open. Looks like Team Tilta has closed down. I sent them an email but haven’t heard anything back yet. I hope they are still in buisness because I like the product a lot and I know several of you have purchased from the Team Tilta store. I don’t know of any other location to buy from in the USA so for now it might be direct from China or a few vendors on Ebay. Tilta came out with some nice rigs this year for the C300 and RED cameras so I don’t think they are done but it likes like the Team Tilta way of selling here in the US is.
If I get any info or you know what happened let me know and I will post it here.
UPDATE.
I spoke to Team Tilta today and they told me that they were running into problems so they had to shut Team Tilta down. They aren’t sure if they will be back up or down for good. Team Tilta is a US distributer for Tilta products.
So thats’s it. Tilta still in business but this channel of getting rigs in the US isn’t. Lets see if Tilta is at NAB this year and I will ask them how they plan on selling their products in the US. They weren’t at NAB last year and probably chose not to be since their distribution in the US isn’t established very well.
Here is the review I did on the Tilta BS-T03 Bbase plate and accessories
It was always bizzare that they sold their gear this way. Their gear can EASILY get distribution in the USA. EVS camera in LA would carry them in a second. I took my rig in there a few months back and guys were drooling over it!
I recently found that my matte box trays have lost their screws and spring. I’m trying to figure out if i can buy another generic tray and replay them with that or if i’ll just have to gaff in my filters.
It’s frustrating for sure. They said from the beginning that they couldn’t keep supply up for the demand if they just opened the doors. That’s why they used this Team Tilta approach. They meaning the US distributors. It’s good news that Tilta will be at NAB this year. I saw a video of some nice rigs for the C300 and C100. Maybe they will up production.

Wow, so glad I found your website. I have their runner rig I use with my dslr’s. I went to to purchase the mattebox today because I had a coupon for it. Even before when I bought the runner rig they were beyond awful at responding to emails and even facebook posts. The whole invite thing was really awkward to me. I’m kind of upset that this happened without any notice. Kind of shady if you ask me. Especially now that I can’t order the mattebox…don’t know what kind of mattebox I can get with it. So dissappointed.
I dont think Team Tilta was shady in fact I never received any negative feedback from a ton of referrals I gave out. The prices where amazing but the way they tried to do business just didn’t work.
The product ant price is amazing. They were more concerned with email invites and selling runner rigs than responding to emails or facebook posts. Thus I deemed it shady. I waited almost 1.5 months to respond to me while I saw them responding to people’s posts about email invites. That is a cause for concern for me. Regardless I am happy I found your website and had some closure for the time being. I also emailed their chinese affiliate and filled out a form on their contact page. If I get any info will gladly share with you.
Ultimately like you said the way they did business, almost like a private club. Just make it public, with their pricing they would kill it in the american market.
Oh great. It was only yesterday 4/1/13, that I discovered the review and the Tilta baseplate. It looks like just what we need. We’ve been using a Sony 750 HDCam for years and looking to add in some of the file-based cameras. The baseplate would have let us build a documentary style shoulder mount for the camera similar to what we’re used to. It would work with all our Sony baseplates and tripods. Any idea where we can purchase a baseplate?

Sorry Robb. The baseplate is nice. I found a few vendors on Ebay but they are all from China and who knows if they are real or knockoffs. I’m going to NAB next week and Tilta has a booth this year so I’ll ask them about how customers in the US are supposed to buy from them. If your in Europe it’s much easier to get. You might try http://cameratrend.com they are in Canada and ship worldwide. Let me know what you end up so I can share with the reads.

Thanks for a very illuminating review. I’ve been considering a rig like this for my FS100. Best guess, do you think that using the longer Manfrotto quick release would allow a longer camera body like the FS100 to be used without a counterweight? I’m not using cinema lenses.
Also, now that NAB has come and gone, were you able to get any more information about the state of the company during the show?

Hi Nick.
Monfroto 357 PLB gives you a little more surface to clamp on and also makes it more adjustable forward and aft. As for counter weight? You probably will have to have some weight in the back. It’s all about experimenting and getting the EVF in the right place. The Tilta baseplate. It’s a good core to build off.
I dont know about Tilta’s financials but they appear to be growing and making lots of new products. They need to make all their products available in the US.
