Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 Camera Also Offers 4K Video

With the GH4 now in stores Panasonic releases it’s second more affordable 4K hybrid to it’s lineup. The FZ1000 has a nice big 1″ sensor with a 16x LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 25-400mm f/2.8-4.0 lens. Thats a long zoom range and also pretty fast. The camera also features a HYBRID Optical Image Stabilization with five-axis correction for steady shots.

Check out theses frame rate options. Full HD capture at 1920 x 1080p with 60, 30, and high-speed 120 fps. Also, at 1280 x 720 resolution, high speed video is supported at up to 240 fps. There is also standard-definition 640 x 480 recording at blazing-fast speeds of 360 fps.

Full HD at 120fps! Thats very cool. What is lacking is no 24p option at all. This is really a consumer oriented camera with very friendly easy to figure out options. The 3840 x 2160 is 16×9 for easy playback on those shiny new 4K displays that no one has yet. I always said that it was going to be the consumers shooting 4K not the pros that would get them to buy into a new TV. This is a little proof of that. I have see my sons birthday in 4K honey! The LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 has some nice video settings like cinelike gamma, hue adjustment, zebra patterns, focus peaking, and a center marker.

Until we see how good the picture is we won’t know if it’s worth adding to the production arsenal as a specialty cam. I’m all for yet another tool I can get the shot with.

UPDATE. New footage and camera features now posted. The mnage is very good in this sample. A little too much sharpness but that can be dialed down to a more pleasing look.

  1. Huh, well… I’ll be damned. Very impressive and interesting. I guess Panasonic is taking a run at Canon for the DSLR film makers. Now high speed? Granted only 120 at 1080, but still impressive.

It really makes me wonder about Panasonic’s recent moves. I mean the GH4 was one thing, then they turn around and drop 2 new production grade cameras on the market at what one would consider “High priced” to the competition in those markets with the new Varicams, then this?

Well, I guess long story short, we’ll soon see Panasonic’s line of Cine glass for these DSLR’s and who knows what else.

Pretty interesting times we live in and now it’s even more affordable to capture it all in 4K.

    Great write up Erik, thanks.

  2. Oh, one more thing… I expect to see the image quality much the same as with the GH4. That high contrasty, high saturation, clear sharp image as already tested.
